From challengers to relegation favourites, who has had the best window so far in the Premier League

Arsenal - C

Arsenal's long wait for Premier League glory ended in May after the Gunners lifted the trophy for the first time in 23 years. They are now tasked with, what some believe is harder to do, defending their crown. They have one marquee purchase to date, with Leandro Trossard departing to Besiktas for a fee of around £17m, Arsenal have brought in Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, for £36m to replace him on the left wing. Tzolis scored 43 goals in 108 games for Brugge, including back to back 20 goal seasons the last two years. Last seasons he notched 22 goals and 29 assists, clearly he is a player that knows where the net is. Other notable moves include the permanent addition of Pierro Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen for £34m, who was a big player in their Premier League and Champions League campaign. Arsenal also picked up ex Leeds shot-stopper Ilian Meslier on a free, with his role in the squad unknown.

I would say C for the Gunners, they still need some numbers, the squad seems quite thin in quality past the first 13/14 players in the team. Defending a title is often harder than winning it, they perhaps are fortunate that not a lot of teams look like they are in he place to challenge them. There biggest loss of the summer was losing out on Morgan Rogers to Chelsea with the former villa main claiming, Chelsea were the biggest club in London, as the blues splashed £117m on him. However, if Arsenal can pull off the signing of Vinicius Jr from Real Madrid, it would certainly send shockwaves through the footballing world.

Aston Villa - B

The Villains return once again to Champions League football next season after enjoying another successful campaign, which brought them Europa League glory. They have had some notable departures including Youri Tielemans and most notably Morgan Rogers, who departed for a record £120m to Chelsea. Aston Villa didn't waste time in getting replacements for two of their key players last season, signing Joao Gomes from relegated Wolves for £34m, after his alleged move to Atletico Madrid fell through. They have also splashed £52m on Swiss World Cup star, Johan Manzambi, who was dynamite for Switzerland at the World Cup over the summer, scoring 3 goals and grabbing two assists before injury ended his tournament early. Unai Emery has also taken a punt on Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea, he arrives at Villa Park on a loan deal with an obligation to buy, which has raised some eyebrows amongst the Villa fans.

As far as the obvious goes, Villa have lost two huge cogs in their machine, Youri Tielemans has been somewhat of a talisman for them for the last few years, popping up with important goals here and there. Morgan Rogers is a huge loss but the money they have recouped from the sale is generational for Emery and Villa. Joao Gomes is a great buy for £34m, he will give them that tempo and quality they need with Tielemans departing, and Johan Manzambi is a hot prospect, for £52m for a youngster after receiving £120m for one of your star players, is not bad business. He could flourish in the team and I would imagine will be deployed in that role that was occupied by Rogers. The grey area for me is the loan deal for Garnacho, for the past two years it seems he has been on a downward spiral and controversy and complaint have followed him from Manchester to London along the way. Emery could be the man to get something out of him however, but overall, I think Villa have had an excellent window with more additions surely to come.

Bournemouth - C

Antonio Silva, Bournemouth's newest signing
Antonio Silva, Bournemouth's newest signing

The Cherries are European bound for the first time in their history after a brilliant swansong season under now Liverpool manager, Andoni Iraola. They have however, lost there star centre-back Marcos Senesi, who departed on a free at the end of his contract, since been snapped up by Spurs. The replacement they have picked up, Antonio Silva, could be a sensational coup for only £26m, having been linked to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United 18 months ago for fees of nearly £90m. Bournemouth do have a knack of picking up these young players and making them stars, look at Dean Hujsen a few years back and most notably, Alex Scott and Rayan currently. The Cherries also picked up striker Alvaro Rodrigues from Elche for £22m who is another youngster, scoring 7 goals in 36 appearances for the Spanish side last season but is a graduate of the Real Madrid academy.

I like the signing of Antonio Silva, who replaces Marcos Senesi, and Alvaro Rodriguez adds some depth to their forward line, but the Cherries need some more reinforcements if they are going to juggle both Premier League and European football this upcoming campaign. It is yet to be fully confirmed by the club but it seems Juanlu from Sevilla will be joining Marco Rose's squad for a reported £11m, a much needed replacement with Alex Jimenez departing to Fiorentina on loan.

Brentford - B

Mamadou Sangare, celebrating at RC Lens
Mamadou Sangare, celebrating at RC Lens

Brentford were dealt a huge blow in the latter end of the last season, having the prospect of European football ripped from their hands after a campaign nobody saw coming. They will be looking to right the wrongs of the second half of last season and kick on for Europe this time around. They have started their pursuit of European football by signing Jaidon Anthony from relegated Burnley for £15m, who was the Clarets star player in a baron season, Anthony managed 9 goals and 2 assists last season, but shone in moments in a struggling side. Callum Wilson also arrives on a free transfer from West Ham providing some much needed backup to Brazilian, Igor Thiago who got 20+ Premier League goals last campaign. The Bees most notable and exciting signing is Mamadou Sangare from RC Lens for £41m, replacing the departing Jordan Henderson, Sangare was instrumental in helping Lens to second place in the Ligue 1 last season as well ass a Coupe De France trophy.

Sangare is an excellent buy for Brentford and he is the type of player every team needs, Callum Wilson is an okay replacement for a year or so and Jaidon Anthony for £15m looks like good business. The best piece of business I think Brentford have made however, is extending the contract of Michael Kayode who was absolutely lights out last season. Even if the Bees only extended his contract to drive his value up, he is a good asset to have.

Brighton - B

Ferdi Kadiouglu, celebrating his goal against Liverpool
Ferdi Kadiouglu, celebrating his goal against Liverpool

Brighton may not look as though they done much in this window, but they have signed some sneaky good players, which is why their grade is so hgih. Danny Welbeck leaving for Chelsea is a huge blow for them as he is such a huge part of the team and the way they like to play. They need to replace his goals before the end of the window. Luka Vuskovic for £47m looks a good buy from Tottenham with Jan Paul Van Hecke going the opposite way for£52m , he will have to do well to fill Van Hecke's boots this season. Pascal Struijk has also joined the Seagulls for £20m from Leeds and a full back in Costinha has joined from Olympiacos for around £11m. The signing that may excite the Brighton fans is 19 year old Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohana, from AIK, who joins for £24m. Brighton were in a direct contest with Newcastle for the players signature but were the victors with Yohana expected to be a big part of this seasons plans. Joel Veltman, Adam Webster and Solly March have left the club after their contracts expired.

Overall, I'd say its been a good window for the Seagulls if the players such as Vuskovic and Struijk can hit the ground running, they have big shoes to fill and Conference League football to balance, but I back Brighton to have another good year. The manager is still only 33 years old and already looks set for a huge job in the future.

Chelsea - B

Morgan Rogers, formerly of Aston Villa, celebrating his winner vs Manchester United
Morgan Rogers, formerly of Aston Villa, celebrating his winner vs Manchester United

Chelsea so far this window have spent £301m, with spending not looking like it is going to stop. Xabi Alonso doesn't have a lot of excuses if Chelsea don't make the top four this season, with some believing they can even challenge for the title. The most notable purchase, obviously, is the British transfer record signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for £120m, as Chelsea beat Arsenal to his signature. Rogers scored 14 goals and 11 assists last season, and played a big part in England's World Cup run this summer. They have also signed Valentin Barco from Strasbourg for 34m, who was last seen getting a smack on the back of the head by Jude Bellingham, Geovany Quenda and Marco Palestra have arrived from Sporting and Atalanta respectively. Chelsea have also grabbed 35 year old, Danny Welbeck, from Brighton for £5m, and are heavily rumoured to be signing free agent Jordan Henderson, bringing some much needed experience to a very young squad. Finally, Maxence Lacroix has penned a deal with the Blues from Crystal Palace for £52m, adding some quality in the defence for Alonso. As far as outgoings go they have lost Andrey Santos to Manchester United and Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, managing to recoup almost £100m in player sales.

On paper it is exciting to sign all these players and some will help the squad, but with Chelsea over the last few years it has felt as though someone is playing career mode. The sheer amount of money spent over the past five or so years has been extortionate, with spending looking like it will continue for the Blues as they are heavily linked to Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano for a fee of around £42m. Overall good window for Chelsea who need to bounce back after a poor season last year.

Coventry - C

Loum Tchaouna, Ex Burnley player
Loum Tchaouna, Ex Burnley player

Coventry begin life in the Premier League under Frank Lampard with a tough game, away at the Emirates. If the Sky Blues want any chance of staying up this season they need to strengthen the core quality in the squad. They are somewhat on their way to doing that with Frank Onyeka joining permanently from Brentford for £6m after his loan spell there last season in the Championship. Aurele Amenda has joined from Frankfurt for £16m, he played 24 games for Frankfurt last season, and can play at right back or centre back for Lampard's men. Their biggest signing so far is Loum Tchaouna from Burnley for £20m, who had his moments for struggling Burnley last season. There have been no notable departures as of yet, but Coventry have to spend more if they hope to fight to stay in the league.

I think the signings they have made so for have been smart signings but I am not sure on the quality they have to try combat a relegation battle this season. Tchaouna only scored 3 goals last season and although he looks bright, I'm not sure that warrants a £20m price tag. Ultimately, they need more numbers or they will be relying on a championship squad in the Premier League. Amenda and Onyeka are good business for the money and can add something to their squad, another striker could be a good addition before the end of the window. Carl Rushworth is also on the brink of joining Coventry in a deal rumoured to be worth around £20m, Rushworth is touted as a future England number 1.

Crystal Palace - F

Oscar Mingueza, joins Palace on a free transfer from Celta Vigo
Oscar Mingueza, joins Palace on a free transfer from Celta Vigo

Despite European success, it would be fair to say Crystal Palace haven't enjoyed the best post season. They have made one signing so far, Oscar Mingueza on a free after his contract at Celta Vigo expired. They have also lost Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea and are yet to replace him. There is also clouds above the futures of Jean Phillipe Mateta and Adam Wharton. The Eagles do have European football to look forward to this season but the squad might struggle to balance both. Ismaila Sarr is also linked with a move to Manchester United.

It doesn't look great right now for Palace fans with some of their star players linked with moves away from Selhurst Park and no news on any incomings, it could be a tough season ahead. Former boss, Oliver Glasner, has also been taking his once Crystal Palace transfer targets to Forest since linked heavily with Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Lisbon, who Palace were linked with last year.

Everton - D

Hayden Hackney, former Middlesbrough star player
Hayden Hackney, former Middlesbrough star player

Everton have done very little in the transfer window as of to fate, but they did pick up Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough, who has been the Championship's star man for the last few seasons. Hackney arrives at the Hill Dickenson for £17m, which could be a great piece of business for the Toffees if he can replicate his Championship form in the Premier League. Over incomings include the permanent signing of Merlin Rohl, from Europa League runners up, Freiburg for £22m. Rohl has been deployed at right-back in much of the pre season, with Seamus Coleman's historic Everton career came to an end this summer. Idrissa Gana Gueye's time at the Toffees has come to an end aswell, after his contract expired this summer.

It isn't looking great for Everton at this current moment in my opinion, with seemingly no other incomings on the horizon right now, its hard to argue they might struggle this season. Iliman Ndiaye is also heavily linked with Saudi clubs for a rumoured £70m transfer, if David Moyes loses his star man it could be a long 9 months for Toffees fans. I like the Hayden Hackney signing, he is always a player that wears his heart on his sleeve and he will buzz around the pitch for them, but they need more.

Fulham - C

Gonzalo Garcia signs for Fulham from Real Madrid
Gonzalo Garcia signs for Fulham from Real Madrid

It was looking bleak for Fulham after losing Marco Silva this summer as well as their two star players, Harry Wilson and Raul Jimenez on free transfers, but Alvaro Arbeloa seems to be bringing youthful energy to this Fulham team. Arbeloa after his interim stint at Real Madrid has arrived at Craven Cottage tasked with following a manager that many Fulham fans loved and adored. He hasn't been dealt a decent hand as of yet though, but the signing of Gonzalo Garcia for 34m and Cesar Palacios for £9m, gives a good indicator of where Arbeloa wants to go wit this side. He wants youthful energy and players that can grow and learn under him. Issa Diop has left Craven Cottage to join Ipswich with the Cottagers receiving £8.6m for the Moroccan, who was excellent at the World Cup over the summer.

Losing the likes of Issa Diop, Harry Wilson and Raul Jimenez, isn't ideal for Arbeloa's first year in charge of Fulham but I do like the signings he has made. Garcia looked excellent in the Club World cup a year ago and clearly has a high ceiling and for £34m for a highly touted youngster, you can't say that isn't good business. More of an unknown around Cesar Palacios, but I'd guess Arbeloa watched a lot of him last season and values his talents. They do need a replacement for Issa Diop however, who could be a big miss at the back.

Hull - B

Hidemasa Morita, applauding the Sporting Lisbon fans
Hidemasa Morita, applauding the Sporting Lisbon fans

Hull City begin life in the Premier League for the first time since 2016/17 after a dramatic late winner in the Play-off final against Middlesbrough. Hull's owner has wasted no time in listing all the targets and transfers they are in for, even giving each a percentage chance of happening. Two confirmed signings so far, however, include Matt Targett, who was at Middlesbrough, last season on a free transfer and more impressively, Hidemasa Morita on a free transfer from Sporting Lisbon. The Japanese man has Champions League experience aswell as Domestic League winning experience from his time at Sporting. They have also added Oscar Zambrano and Jack Butland to the group, Butland providing some much needed depth in the goalkeeping area after Ivan Pandur departed for Rangers. Hull are heavily linked with a whole host of players, including Leon Bailey (Aston Villa), Mert Komur (Koln), Mohamed- Cho (Nice) , Franjo Ivanovic (Benfica). A signing that should be made permanent in the next few days is Australian youngster Lucas Herrington for around £20m from Colorado Rapids of the MLS. A few outgoings include Kasey Palmer and Akin Famewo who have left on permanent deals to Luton and Bolton.

This may seem strange but I'm giving Hull a B based off the fact that they are very close to signing a lot of these players their linked with, if you listen to owner Acun Ilicali. I really like the signing of Morita, I think he is an amazing pick up for a newly promoted club and the other players they are linked with are solid Premier League squad players that can help keep the Tigers up. Sunderland really set a foundation to follow last season when they splashed the cash and got European football, slightly different circumstances for the Tigers, but you do have to spend money to stay in the Premier League or you will get swallowed whole.

Ipswich - B

Issa Diop celebrates his goal for Morocco vs Netherlands at World Cup 2026
Issa Diop celebrates his goal for Morocco vs Netherlands at World Cup 2026

Another newly promoted side in the Tractor Boys, Ipswich Town, arrive back in the Premier League after a one season hiatus. They arrive however, without longtime manager Kieran McKenna after he stood down after guiding the team to a second place finish in the Championship last season. Gary O'Neil, who spent the last season in France managing Strasbourg has taken the mantle and will be hoping to defy the odds and keep Ipswich in the Premier League this time around. Ipswich have made 5 signings this summer already with a couple more expected to follow. Daizen Maeda joins from Celtic, for £10m, he scored 71 goals in 190 appearances for them. Issa Diop joins from Fulham for £8.6m, which could be a steal with his experience, Dutch goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen arrives for £8m from Belgian side, Union St-Gilloise. The big money moves come in the form of Abdul Fatawu for £20m from Leicester and striker Emersson from Toulouse for £24m, two big punts from the Tractor Boys. Sammie Szmodics departs on loan after a forgetful spell at the club.

Ipswich certainly have been busy since the window opened and have acquired some great players for the money they paid for them. Issa Diop is a fantastic signing for under £10m, he has levels of experience in the Premier League and will help solidify that backline. Kjell Scherpen is an upgrade from Christian Walton who will now probably be back up, and Fatawu provides quality and skill in forward areas. The biggest unknown is around the purchase of Emersson, who are they are clearly taking a chance on. The Brazilian notched 6 goals last season for Toulouse in 28 matches but is still only 22 years old. I like the signing of Maeda, he is busy on the field and a great presser, he can play all across the front three aswell.

Leeds United - B

Tarik Muharemovic signing his Leeds United contract
Tarik Muharemovic signing his Leeds United contract

After a somewhat surprising season for Leeds, with many tipping them for relegation, the Whites managed to stay up after a tactical switch in late November saw their form sky rocket. They will now be looking to push on and be in and around that mid table- European dog fight that could occur again this season. They have made two phenomenal signings on their way to combatting that aswell, Welsh winger Harry Wilson joins on a free and highly rated central defender Tarik Muharemovic has signed from Sassulolo for £34m, he was excellent in the World Cup for Bosnia this summer. Leeds are also one step away from signing James Trafford from Manchester City in a deal rumoured to be worth £40m. Pascal Struijk has since departed Elland Road for the coast as he joined Brighton for £20m and Ilian Meslier's contract expired in the summer. Jack Harrison has also joined New England Revolution in the MLS for a £1m fee.

This has already been some window for Leeds, piking up Harry Wilson on a free who was golddust for Fulham las season and could have made an argument to be in the Team of The Season for the Premier League. He will slot straight into the team giving them so much more quality going forward. The signing at centre back excites me slightly more though as Muharemovic is a serious defender. To pick up someone of his calibre for only £34m is an absolute steal and for me the signing of the transfer window so far.

Liverpool - F

Victor Munoz, Liverpool's only summer business
Victor Munoz, Liverpool's only summer business

This time last year Liverpool were Premier League Champions and looked unstoppable with the business they had done, bringing in Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike to an already title winning side. It's safe to say that it did not go to plan, after almost missing out on the Champions League entirely, they just about scraped over the line and are looking to enjoy a fresh start with Andoni Iraola. It doesn't look good however, with only one new addition to their squad and three first team players leaving as their contracts expired. Andy Robertson was used as a rotation player last season with Milos Kerkez, and has since departed Anfield and joined Tottenham, Ibrahima Konate after a horrid season last year has joined Real Madrid on a free, Real had been after him for a while. The most heart-breaking for the Reds is Mohamed Salah departing Anfield after 9 years, who has been instrumental to their success during that time, scoring 257 goals in just over 440 games. The only new arrival so far is ,Spaniard, Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £40m who Liverpool hijacked from Newcastle a few weeks ago.

It's not hard to sit here and say that Liverpool haven't replaced the likes of Salah, Robertson or Konate but they haven't even really tried. They have been linked with Bradley Barcola from PSG, for another £100m+ signing, he is a luxury player sure but they need more. Perhaps the spending of last summer has caught up to them and they can't splash the cash as much as they like, but it can't be played down the impact of losing three starting players for a club like Liverpool, who's depth was already a question. They will be relying on the likes of Wirtz and Isak to justify those price tags this season, but Iraola is under pressure before the season has even started.

Manchester City - D

Elliot Anderson celebrating his goal vs Manchester City last season
Elliot Anderson celebrating his goal vs Manchester City last season

A new era is officially underway at the Etihad stadium, with Pep Guardiola leaving and passing the torch to, his once assistant, Enzo Maresca. Maresca has been without a job since resigning from Chelsea halfway through last season. A new era also signifies the moving on of some of the old guard for City, Bernardo Silva and John Stones departed on free transfers, Silva has since been picked up by Real Madrid. Nathan Ake has also left and joined Turkish side Fenerbache for £8m, leaving City short in the centre back department with two first teamers leaving. Additions for the Citizens include two youngsters, Pierre Charles from Sheffield Wednesday for £3m, and Jeremy Monga from Leicester for £13m. The biggest signing of the summer for City is obviously the acquisition of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Frost for a whopping £116m, which was the transfer record before Chelsea broke it for Morgan Rogers. James Trafford is heavily linked to be leaving with Leeds one step from getting his signature.

There is no doubt Elliot Anderson would be a fantastic signing for any club, he has so many qualities that make him admirable, not sure about £116m, but that's the price you pay for young English prospects from the Premier League these days. He will slot into that midfield and take Bernardo Silva's place alongside Rodri in the heart of City's midfield. However, Rodri has been flirting with Real Madrid all summer and a transfer to Spain looks likely for the Spaniard. City still need a few players for depth for me, but I think Maresca is a good manager and I like his style he deploys, it will be interesting to see how he lines City up. I think it is still somewhat of an underwhelming window but there's an air of uncertainty hanging around the Etihad this summer.

Manchester United - D

Youri Tielemans signing his contract at Carrington
Youri Tielemans signing his contract at Carrington

With Michael Carrick's first full as Manchester United manager, on the horizon the fans of the Red Devils will be optimistic of more success after a confident finish to the 25/26 season. Manchester United as always are linked to every name in under the sun, but perhaps two midfielders that nobody expected have arrived at Old Trafford for some good value. Manchester United were in a long term pursuit of Matheus Fernandes, formerly of West Ham for £85m but were beaten to his signature by Tottenham. Since then they have spent that £85m on two midfielders and look to have got more value out of their money. 22 year old Brazilian midfielder, Andrey Santos, has joined from Chelsea for just short of £50m and one that caught most off guard, Youri Tielemans signed for United for just £35m from Aston Villa. Karl Darlow has joined the Red Devils on a free after departing Leeds at the end of the summer, with Altay Bayindir expected to depart United. Other outgoings include Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia ,who has been plagued with injury, Andre Onana has gone back out on loan to Trabzonspor, and the most bittersweet for United, Casemiro has left as his contract expired. Rasmus Hojlund has joined Napoli on a permanent deal for £38m.

Casemiro leaving has left United with a huge gap to fill, I'm not sure that gap has been filled by players of the same profile, but it is a star. Tielemans has been a stalwart for Villa over the past few years and has quality in passing and progressing the team up the pitch, something United have lacked for a while. Andrey Santos was a surprising one for me, he is still so young and we haven't really seen an awful lot of him apart from the brief appearances he had last year at Chelsea, I do think he could become a good player and £50m could look a good price for him. United were crying out for some midfielders, after rebuilding their front line last season, it seemed inevitable the next in line would be the midfield, someone to partner Kobbie Mainoo. I still think United have had an underwhelming window, only spending a net of £40m when they desperately needed depth to tackle this season, They are also fighting on all fronts and currently don't have any senior back up to injury prone, Luke Shaw, and have a skeleton back line with Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs De Ligt both carrying injuries over to the new season.

Newcastle - E

Newcastle's big money signing Bazoumana Toure posing at St James Park
Newcastle's big money signing Bazoumana Toure posing at St James Park

Where do we start with Newcastle, it has felt like a merry-go-round this pre season, Eddie Howe has now departed over the last week and Matthias Jaissle has joined, who previously managed Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia. It all started when Barcelona took Anthony Gordon from them during the World Cup for £70m, then Sandro Tonali swiftly followed him out of the exit door, he joined Spurs in a deal worth just short of £100m. Bruno Guimaraes is already on the doorstep of the Emirates waiting for that transfer to be announced, that deal is worth a rumoured £75M, the Toon Army have also lost Kieran Trippier as he has joined Wolves on a free transfer. They are going to have received just shy of 230m for three of their main players, but they have reinvested it in younger talent, and quite a few of them. Two new goalkeepers have joined, 24 year old ,Lukas Hornicek from Braga for £26m and , 20 year old, Ewen Jaouen from Reims for £19m. Two new midfielders join them with 18 year old, Sean Steur arriving from Ajax for £20m and 20 year old, Aladji Bamba from Monaco for £31m. There highest spend this summer comes on Ivory Coast youngster, Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim for £43m, he got 5 goals and 9 assists in the Bundesliga last season. Newcastle were also in for Victor Munoz and Johan Manzambi and had both deals virtually agreed, before both were hijacked by Liverpool and Aston Villa, which sparked meltdown on social media from Geordies.

Well safe to say it hasn't been a pretty summer for the Toon Army, but it's not like they haven't signed players, they've just also sold three of their best players that have been phenomenal for them for the past few years. It is a big chance they are taking on these young players, the Premier League is a tough league to adapt to and some need time to get to grips with the physicality of the league. Most of these signings look exciting but I'm not sure it is what Newcastle need right now, they need some experience and leadership after Bruno Guimaraes and Tonali have left. Lewis Hall and Joelinton are also rumoured to have asked to leave with Manchester United and Chelsea interested in Hall. It could be a tough season for Newcastle and Matthias Jaissle, they have Liverpool in their first game.

Nottingham Forest - D

Austrian, Xaver Schlager, joins Forest from RB Leipzig
Austrian, Xaver Schlager, joins Forest from RB Leipzig

Not a lot has happened on the transfer front at the City Ground so far this window, with only two incoming and a few outgoings. The only incoming staying around, is Austrian, Xaver Schlager, joining on a free from RB Leipzig at the expiration of his contract, Schlager brings Champions League experience and links up with fellow Austrian and new Forest manager, Oliver Glasner. Glasner has taken a lot of his targets from his Crystal Palace days over to City Ground with Forest rumoured to be in for Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Lisbon for £40m. Gustavo Sa, from Familicao, is the only other new arrival who joins Forest for £17m but has joined Olympiacos on loan for the season. The biggest departure is of course, Elliot Anderson who joins Manchester City for £116m, which give Forest a pretty penny to spend on upgrading the squad. Other outgoings include, David Carmo and Jota Silva leaving for Olympiacos and Willy Boly, Angus Gunn and Stefan Ortega departing as there contracts have all expired.

It feels harsh to put Forest at this low of a grade because they do have the money to spend and are linked to a few good targets. Diomande would be a great signing, top clubs have been sniffing around him for years. They have been rather dormant so far this window and it could cost them, we know what the owner of Forest is like and if Glasner gets off to a poor start he could see the exit door rather quickly. I would have thought they would have splashed the cash and tried to get back in that top half/ race for Europe that a lot of teams were involved in last season.

Sunderland - D

Thomas Meunier celebrating a goal for his Country, Belgium
Thomas Meunier celebrating a goal for his Country, Belgium

Another team that has been quiet in the transfer window is Sunderland. The Black Cats returned to the Premier League last season and shocked everyone with a 7th place finish, meaning European football will be played at the Stadium of Light this campaign. They signed a lot of players last summer which is a clear disparity to this one with their only incoming being former Borussia Dortmund and PSG right back, Thomas Meunier joining on a free. Meunier brings bags of experience at 34 years old that could be invaluable to a young squad. Outgoings include Dan Neil, Nazariy Rusyn, Niall Huggins, Bertrand Traore, Dennis Cirkin and Timothee Pembele, whose contracts have all expired. Eliezer Mayenda has been bought by Rennes for £19m.

A quiet time at the Stadium of Light this summer with them actually being currently in a net profit of £19m for this window. Strange tactic considering their squad now has to combat Thursday nights and Sunday's in the Premier League very week for the first half of the season at least. Meunier is a decent addition with his European experience but not sure if he gets in over Nordi Mukiele who had an excellent 25/26 campaign for the black Cats. I would be surprised if Sunderland don't spend some serious cash over the next month and bring in some reinforcements to strengthen the depth, they could desperately use some help for Brian Brobbey up top.

Tottenham - A

Ex Newcastle man, Sandro Tonali celebrating his goal against Chelsea

Without doubt the busiest team this summer has been Tottenham Hotspur, splashing the cash and totalling currently an over £200m spent on transfers. Spurs are looking to combat back to back 27th place finishes in the Premier League and bounce right back up the table. Their most expensive signing comes in the form of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle who arrives for £93m, he is joined by Mateus Fernandes from relegated West Ham for £86m, Spurs beat Manchester United to his signature. Jan Paul Van Hecke has joined to reinforce the backline from Brighton for £52m, with highly rated young centre-back, Luka Vuskovic going the opposite way to the Amex. Marcos Senesi joins on a free after his time at Bournemouth ended this summer, bolstering Spurs backline with Cristian Romero looking destined to leave White Hart Lane this summer. Senesi is joined by veteran shot-stopper Martin Dubravka and Scotland's Andy Robertson on free transfers. Outgoings for Spurs include Will Lankshear joining Middlesbrough for a fee of £10m, Alfie Devine joining Preston for £6m, Radu Dragusin going out on loan to Fiorentina and Yves Bissouma's contract expiring, The spending isn't done there for Spurs apparently, as they are heavily linked to buying both Savinho, of Manchester City, and Cody Gakpo, of Liverpool, for a combined price of just over £100m all together.

It's hard to say Tottenham aren't the winners of the Transfer window so far in the Premier League, yes they've spent a lot of money but you can't argue they haven't upgraded their squad tenfold. The additions of Tonali and Fernandes make that midfield look lightyears ahead of what they have had the past couple seasons. Senesi and Van Hecke upgrade the defence and add good depth and quality to the back line. If they can pull of the deals for Gakpo and Savinho, their attack suddenly begins to look really lethal aswell. Overall, a really good window so far for Spurs and something for their fans to cheer after a bleak season last campaign.
